Music and the brain

Flamenco falseta

Group and individual Guitar lessons in Classical, Flamenco, Brazilian and Rock music during the summer. All ages. All levels.

FOR ADULTS

 June 21-July 22, 2010. Miami, Florida

Feed your brain and soul by learning to play guitar and your favorite music style this summer.

Starting June 21, 2010 I will be offering individual and group guitar lessons for all ages. Group sessions will be limited to a maximum of 6 adult students per group allowing quality individual coaching to every one in the class.  Group classes for 2, 3 or 4 students can also be arranged. I am keeping the cost of the classes low and the groups small. These classes are an introductory course for the absolute beginner. What will you be learning? the basics of guitar playing. Emphasis will be placed on learning to play guitar using the fingers of the right hand as opposed to using only a pick. Although this is a beginner's course the student will learn right away how to play well known melodies, learn the basic chords and be able to create easy strumming patterns. Here is a quick break down of what the beginner's course will cover:

-A brief introduction to reading tablature and music notation on the    --guitar

-Learning to place fingers on the first quadrant (first 4 frets) and develop a   good sound and articulation.

-Work at coordinating left and right hand finger movements -simultaneously to help you create a variety of interesting bass and melodic lines combinations.

-Speed up the learning process by using a combination of tablature and music notation on different types of music.

-Learn to strum basic rhythmic accompaniments in the Keys of C major, G major and D major

-Learn simple musical compositions from the Classical, Flamenco,     Brazilian and Rock literature.

Learning to play the guitar is fun, but learning to play it well requires a good deal of discipline from the student. In order to develop the control that is required on both hands to create a good sound and a smooth musical feel, practicing habits have to be in place. It is up to the student to follow through. I have put together for these sessions, aside from the technical exercises, some easy arrangements of different styles of music that will allow the student to learn and work on the different musical and technical aspects of each style. For example: "rasgueado" techniques in Flamenco, "bending" of the strings in Rock or to learn the syncopated rhythm of the Brazilian Samba and Boss nova. If you are particularly interested in learning and concentrating in one specific style of music, call me at 786-242-6524 or send me an e-mail at: franciscoburgos@burgosguitar.com.  I will be happy to provide you with the information about individual lessons in the style of music you are interested in. The group classes at this point are only for beginners. If you play guitar already and would like to take individual lessons to improve your technique, don't hesitate to contact me. I teach beginners as well as advance students. If you are planning to go to college I can help you prepare for your audition exams. If music is something you have been planning to get into just for the fun of it I can also help you with that too.

If the times and dates I am offering the lessons are not convenient to you, I will be happy to put together additional group sessions if there are enough students to form a group. You can send me an e-mail requesting the schedule you are looking for or call me. I teach 7 days a week and classes can be scheduled in the mornings, afternoons or evenings. For your convenience I have two locations in Kendall or if you prefer I can do private lessons at your home. Group lessons will only take place at my Home/Studio: 14864 SW 180 Street, Miami 33187.

FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS

June 21-July 23, 2010

Children are welcomed.  Classes will be arranged according to age and the music and tunes to be learned will be according to their age group.   You can send me an e-mail requesting the schedule you are looking for or call me.  Classes can be scheduled in the mornings, afternoons or evenings. Children group lessons can not have more than 2 students per group. Parents will be expected to sit with child during the class. Children group class duration will be maximun 1 hour.

It is an understatement to say how important it is for the children (and adults) to learn to play a musical instrument. The rewards and benefits a child (or an adult) can receive by learning to play a musical instrument have been covered in countless publications and the media. Music exercises all your brain functions: visual, pattern recognition, fine motor skills, abstract thinking, spatial orientation, imagination, numerical and mathematical concepts, language, memory, problem-solving ability, while reducing psychological stress and increasing health. If you type in: "music improves brain" using your favorite search engine online you will find about a half-million results that point to proof of music's inherent ability to improve high brain functions, coordinate multiple skill-sets, rewire the cerebral cortex to improve left-right hemisphere communication. Music also increases social confidence and public speaking ability... the list goes on and on.Learning music is good for everyone. It is non-violent, promotes peaceful artistic cooperation, concentration and it is fun!
