Francisco (Pancho) Burgos
Goizueta,
Film composer and arranger
Europe is a long way from the sunny beaches of California where Pancho makes his home these days. Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Pancho Burgos started playing piano and keyboards at age 13. He attended Madrid Royal Conservatory for Classical Performance and Theory, where he studied with Nino Kereselidze (1982 Tchaikovsky Award winner). Interested in other musical styles besides classical, Pancho taught himself more contemporary styles by playing along with records of his favorite artists (mainly rock and pop), and began playing and songwriting with friends in their high school pop-rock band, Carpe Diem. By age 19, he landed his first pro gig playing keys in a busy and seasoned Spanish touring band, Akelarre, where he was the youngest player by 12 years. It was traveling all over Spain for two years with this group that he would learn the importance of being as versatile and eclectic as a musician could be. With that idea in mind, he decided to form his own band with long time friends Jose Angel de la Banda (Nexx) and David Aguilar. Fahrenheit was a cover band project that played an eclectic repertoire of their favorite music. The band was a moderate success with a steady following, playing mainly in Madrid and landing a couple of festivals and gigs outside of town. In 1999, Pancho decided to pursue music full time, and was accepted into Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he decided to dual major in Classical Composition and Film Scoring. There he won composition competitions, and was awarded scholarships for achievement and academic excellence. At Berklee, Pancho studied composition with Marti Epstein, Dennis Leclaire, James Smith and John Babicchi. He also landed a position as Assistant Conductor to the Longwood Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Francisco Noya's direction ..... In 2006, through his work on the Contemporary Opera of Los Angeles, Pancho also started to pursue his dream of becoming a film composer, working with award-winning composer David Lawrence ("American Pie," "High School Musical," "Beverly Hills 90210") on the CBS cult hit "Jericho." From there, Pancho would work with Lawrence on High School Musical 2, Cheetah Girls 3 and CBS' "Cane." Pancho is involved in other projects already in the works for 2009: High School Musical 3 (already out), an MTV project, and an A&E show ....... (view more) |
